Updating and extending your lease

As the length of a lease decreases, it can become more difficult to sell or remortgage your property. Many mortgage lenders may be reluctant to lend against properties with shorter lease terms.

Extending your lease may:

  • Increase the marketability of your home
  • Make it easier to obtain a mortgage or re-mortgage
  • Provide long-term security and peace of mind
  • Protect the value of your property.

The process for extending a lease can vary depending on the terms of your existing lease and your individual circumstances.

As your lease is a legal document, you will need to contact your solicitor if you want to add someone to or take someone off your lease.  You will also need our consent and you will be responsible for all legal fees.
